WHEN CRAFTING OUR PRODUCTS, WE MAKE USE OF THE ENTIRE HIDE AND CREATE SMALL LEATHER GOODS FROM THE REMAINING PIECES. WE TRANSFORM THESE INTO HANDMADE AND SUSTAINABLE MASTERPIECES, MADE ESPECIALLY FOR YOU!

Supporting India
All BURKELY bags have been produced in India since 1993, where we maintain close relationships. In addition to striving for sustainable materials, we also ensure good working conditions. This includes aspects such as safety, fair wages, and the absence of forced and child labor. We travel to the factories in India several times a year, and we also work with BSCI certified factories.
BSCI is an initiative by European companies that aim to improve and safeguard working conditions. BSCI stands for Business Social Compliance Initiative.

Genuine leather
All products produced for BURKELY are made from high-quality leather sourced from the meat and dairy industry. In this industry, the animal hides that are not used are sold as waste to leather tanneries. Therefore, no animals are slaughtered specifically for your bag.
Leather is a premium, natural material that is highly durable and, unlike other materials, becomes more beautiful over time. With proper care, you can enjoy your leather bag for a lifetime.

We understand that there is growing interest in vegan leather alternatives. However, at BURKELY, we have made a conscious decision not to work with vegan leather, which is often made from materials like polyurethane (PU). There are several reasons for this choice.
Firstly, PU-based vegan leather typically has a shorter lifespan compared to genuine leather. It may wear out more quickly, leading to a shorter usable life for the product. This can contribute to increased waste and a higher environmental impact.
Secondly, PU is a synthetic material that is difficult to break down and recycle. When products made from PU vegan leather reach the end of their life cycle, they often end up in landfills, adding to the accumulation of non-biodegradable waste.
Lastly, there is the issue of microplastics and the impact on the environment. PU vegan leather is essentially a form of plastic, and during its use and eventual breakdown, it can release microplastic particles that contribute to plastic pollution, including the problem of plastic soup in our oceans.
Considering these factors, we believe that sustainable, responsibly produced genuine leather is a better choice for the environment. Leather is a natural material that can be more durable, long-lasting, and can age beautifully over time. Every season, we release an extensive collection that includes work bags, handbags, wallets, and accessories. Within each collection, you will multiple lines, each with its own style. This way, there is something for everyone, and we can cater to different trends.
In addition to our seasonal collections, we also have a Fundamental collection. This collection can be seen as the foundation of BURKELY and includes two lines: Antique Avery and Vintage. These collections showcase classic essentials with a BURKELY twist. A Fundamental bag is available for both women and men, it is practical with the necessary compartments, has a timeless design, and is made of high-quality leather.
